This fist entry is both a test while configuring and finding my way in the Blogger environment and workings, and a brief hello to everyone who, from now on, may be interested in reading whatever I have to say. As a computer technology professional (and hobbyist at the same time) many technical things attract my attention, and I like to fiddle with a variety of systems, gadgets and whatever I read about, lay my hands or put my eyes on.
For a long time I have refrained from having my own web-site-blog or whatever it is called in the future because I don't usually have time to write regularly and being unable to maintain a steady presence I very well know would quickly wither (pun intended: see next paragraph) the public attention I may get. But I have found that I sometimes have interesting things to share, maybe not regularly, but occasional in-depth reviews or pieces of information not yet shared elsewhere, and I also can as time permits echo important technological developments in as clear a way as I am capable.
For the record, Síorghlas is the Irish word for Evergreen, an alias I've used for many years in electronics networks but one that I increasingly find used by other people. So now that I am finally creating a (I hope) permanent and unequivocal online identity, I think it fitting to use a synonym in a language I much like because of so-called Celtic music. And I would also not find much people who uses it, opposed to Perenne (Spanish), Perennant (French), Immergrün (German), etc. So, as you'll understand, I hope Síorghlas does honor its meaning and helps my blog not wither!
I hope my musings, reflections and ramblings happen to be useful or at least not a complete waste of time for you my unknown reader. Of course, you can express your comments and make yourself known, even get to be a follower! Though, I must say, that "follower" terminology is not much to my liking: I find it somewhat derogatory to the skills of those following, as if a guru to be blindly followed by in-awe subjects. Neither do I like to think of them as my "fans", as if I were someone above others to be admired. I believe in the equality of human beings, even in being full of shortcomings, so, to me, you will always be just my chaps.
As I tweet more regularly than I will be able to post (the short and to-the-point nature of Twitter helps!), you can either... er... "follow" me there as well or just read the latest ones down on this page. And with this I conclude what I intended to be a short entry! Be posting to you!
Slán leat,
Síorghlas
